NuTech® Seed Builds More Community for Cordt Holub

For fourth-generation Iowa farmer, Cordt Holub of Dysart, success is measured by more than just top yields. “I think it all comes down to building a strong family, working with your community and helping each other grow.”  This philosophy – that more community support equals more farming success – is why he’s passionate about growing and selling NuTech® seed.

Cordt, along with his father, Craig, and brother, Cade, grow corn, soybeans, and raise cattle as a part of Holub Land Farms. For the past eight years, Cordt has also been selling NuTech seed, driven by a commitment to helping local farmers succeed. Part of that commitment comes with planting a variety of maturities on his own field each year, “I want to make sure I can tell my customers, here is how it performed on my farm, I have a stake in it, and they can appreciate that,” he explains.

Local connectivity is the essential difference for Cordt, “the NuTech customer support is above and beyond what I’ve experienced from other companies.” This support comes from close relationships with his NuTech® Seed DSM, Kyle Strohbehn, and local agronomist, Chris Adams who help tackle the highs and lows.  “They’ve been a support system, being able to discuss the hard topics – I trust them and they’re willing to listen, that makes you feel better, beyond just simply doing business,” Cordt shares.

This commitment to the community is reciprocal. Cordt detailed his own involvement through areas such as the county Farm Bureau and his local church, “being involved in the community is important to me, I want them to know I am here to help out.”

As part of Cordt’s commitment to helping other farmers succeed he tests out several corn hybrids and soybean varieties each year. He emphasizes, “I don’t have a problem putting NuTech soybeans head-to-head with other companies, I know that we have the performance and the traits that will help us prevail.”

In fact, they had impressive results with NuTech variety, 22N04E™ this past year, “I had a field do 75 bushels an acre that historically didn’t go over 65.” Along with the 10-bushel yield increase, Cordt was pleased to see a clean field, “with the Enlist E3® trait I was able to control weeds such as water hemp, so the combine-ability of that plant was above and beyond.”

Looking ahead to next season, Cordt is excited about some of the 113-day maturities including NuTech hybrid 73J1V™, it did well in my plot and some other local plots – the ears on that plant were like baseball bats – when I was combining the plot you could just hear each ear plunk on the corn head!”

For Cordt, NuTech seed goes beyond performance, it’s a community that delivers more. “I like that NuTech is a farmer-dealer company. We’re working locally, we’ve got consistent results and the reliability in our products and our people.”
